Laws' parachute payments increase
Brian Laws may not have the luxury of a 'parachute payment' afforded to some of next season's Championship opponents but the Owls boss has been warmed by the generosity of Wednesday fans supporting him this summer.
The Owls chief is doing a sponsored parachute jump in aid of the Sheffield Children's Hospital on July 9 and supporters have now donated £2,000 in aid of the event.
Laws admits that he is scared of heights and insists that he is certainly not doing the parachute jump for fun.
But the manager befriended Children's Hospital patient, Daniel Grice last year and rose to the challenge of the 12-year-old to make the jump.
"I am scared of heights," Laws said. "I am certainly not doing this for fun and the aim is to do something special for Daniel Grice. He is a great kid who has had a tough time with leukaemia, so I want to do this for him as well as raise funds for Sheffield Children's Hospital.
"It is fantastic that so many people have supported this parachute jump already but I really want to make as much money as possible for the Children's Hospital because they do a wonderful job in providing much needed, sometimes life saving, health care to countless children."
Brian's parachute jump will take place on July 9 at Hibaldstow Airfield near Brigg in Lincolnshire. While donations made online account for just under £2,000 at present (June 10), further cheques sent towards the find take the total above this figure.
