Sheffield Wednesday manager, Brian Laws, insists his team must win individual battles against Hartlepool on Tuesday night in the Carling Cup second round.

If the Owls are to progress through to the third round of the competition, they will have to earn the right to beat their opponents from the North East according to the Hillsborough boss.

"We will give Hartlepool ultimate respect, as we did at Rotherham United," Laws stresses in his programme notes for the game. "Tonight is not an exception from the way we usually approach games."

"We have to match Hartlepool in everything we do and win our individual battles first before we are allowed to play. But we are at home and we want to get on a winning run at Hillsborough."

"It is a fantastic surface out there and we want football to be played on it. Hartlepool will try and play too and I hope this will be an entertaining game for the supporters tonight," Laws added.
