With four of the Owls' next five games to unfold on Hillsborough soil, Brian Laws has urged his players to hammer home the S6 advantage.

Wednesday head into this weekend's encounter with Ipswich just one place above the drop zone and Laws is well aware that defeat, combined with results elsewhere, could condemn SWFC to the bottom three.

Laws said: "This is the time when we really need to put a decent run of results together.

"We've played some fantastic football in our last two games against Sheffield United and particularly the first half against Derby, the approach was right and the tempo was right.

"That's the benchmark and the standard that we must look to match in this busy spell of home games coming up. We need all the players on song because when they are, we're a good side."

The boss has been boosted by the twin arrival of striker Enoch Showunmi and ex-SWFC loanee midfielder Graham Kavanagh, back for a second stint at the club.

Laws insists the double swoop has handed his troops a necessary boost as Wednesday seek to haul themselves clear of danger.

"Enoch can be a real handful up front and that's what we need while Akpo Sodje is injured.

"We already know what Kav is all about so I've got every confidence that - just like when he was here before - he can give us that calming influence in the middle of the park."

Laws has also called on established Owls players to step up to the plate and maximise the opportunities ahead.

Deon Burton for one is champing at the bit for a starting shirt and Laws feels the striker is due a purple patch in the final third.

He added: "Deon has the quality there, he and Marcus Tudgay have already shown, for example, what a dangerous partnership they can be.

"He is his own worse critic and that's a positive thing in many ways because he stays focussed.

"When Deon gets the chance, he will stand up to be counted and that's the attitude we need.

"Jermaine Johnson came off at half time at Wolves in midweek, he had a bad day at the office and he knows that.

"But JJ has responded exactly the right way in training and like a few of the players, he'll be looking to put that Wolves performance behind him."
