The Owls were thwarted in their attempts to get a first win of the season on the board, as Burnley produced a late equaliser to take a point back to Lancashire.
Wednesday had been in the driving seat after Steven MacLean got their opening goal for the term from the spot midway through the second half, but James O'Connor grabbed a fortunate leveller to secure Burnley - who had Andy Gray sent off in injury time - a share of the spoils.
Wednesday threatened early on as MacLean just failed to connect with Kenny Lunt's inswinging free-kick, after smart work by Glenn Whelan. At the other end, Brad Jones deflected Gray's close range effort and the former Blades striker headed over from fellow ex-Bramall Lane man Jon Harley's cross.

Burton O'Brien smacked a 25-yarder against the Clarets' bar with just over a quarter of an hour played and Jones comfortably held Wade Elliott's drive.
Chris Brunt was also denied by the woodwork ten minutes before the break, sliding to hook his ball around the ball 15 yards out only to see the ball cannon back off the angle, after intelligent interplay between MacLean and O'Brien. The latter also flicked his header across goal from Whelan's right-wing dribble and delivery and Brian Jensen scrambled Madjid Bougherra's shot away from Lunt's corner after the break.

MacLean headed in after Brunt's corner was nodded across goal by Graham Coughlan, but referee Colin Webster had spotted an infringement and ruled out the effort. O'Brien brought a save from Jensen after a swift break by Brunt and the latter then glanced his header across goal from O'Brien's centre, as the Owls forced Burnley onto the back foot.
They got their reward in the 66th minute when Frank Simek's surge into the area was halted illegally by Harley and MacLean stepped up to bury the kick into Jensen's left-hand corner, sending the keeper the wrong way.

However the lead lasted just 15 minutes as O'Connor's close range shot crept past Jones with nine minutes to go after Frank Sinclair and Chris McCann linked up, dealing the Owls a hefty blow. A great challenge from Wayne Thomas denied Brunt a clear shot from MacLean's cross, before the Scottish striker limped off in the late stages.
John Hills' low cross evaded Wade Small and Coughlan was unable to force it over the line, before Gray was dismissed for a second bookable offence after kicking the ball away in injury time.
