Wednesday rounded off the Championship season in winning fashion as they beat Norwich City by the odd goal in five at Hillsborough.
Jermaine Johnson set them on their way in the 26th minute and Deon Burton grabbed a second just before the interval. A bizarre own goal from Dickson Etuhu increased Wednesday's cushion on 49 minutes although Rob Earnshaw (57) and Dion Dublin (76) had the visitors sensing an equaliser late on.
The victory meant the Owls registered their sixth double of the league campaign, adding the Canaries to a list of victims made up of Barnsley, Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town, Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion.
Brian Laws had made three changes to the side that started at Birmingham, with Johnson making his first start since March while the injured Frank Simek (ankle) and Tommy Spurr (eye) were replaced by Yoann Folly and Peter Gilbert.
It was Gilbert who came close to an early opener with a dipping lob that had Tony Warner reaching back to flip the ball over the crossbar just three minutes in. Johnson looked set to profit from an Owls break soon after but found his angle cut down when he latched onto Glenn Whelan's pass.
However the Jamaican international enjoyed better fortunes midway through the first half as he claimed his first goal at Hillsborough since joining from Bradford City. The winger teased the City defence before edging inside to bend a left-footed attempt into the far corner.
Marcus Tudgay should have done better four minutes later when he sent his header over the top after being picked out by Kenny Lunt's right-wing centre. Norwich were also fortunate in scrambling Chris Brunt's delivery to safety after the ball had bypassed Warner. It was the Owls' turn to breath a sigh of relief when the unmarked Jason Shackell sent a header wide from Simon Lappin's corner.
Wednesday doubled their lead in first half injury time when Burton hammered in at the far post after Lunt's corner raked through a packed penalty area to him. And the Owls could have netted soon after the restart when Tudgay arced a volley wide of goal, before Etuhu's freak own goal. The midfielder rolled the ball back to Warner but the on loan keeper failed to control and it trickled inside his right hand
City hit back when Earnshaw, who slid wide from Darren Huckerby's cutback minutes earlier, volleyed in off the bar and Dublin should have done better with his head when Huckerby picked him out. Chris Adamson made a smart save to deny Shackell from Mark Fotheringham's corner before Warner went a small way to atoning for his part in Wednesday's third goal when he pushed Lunt's long-range effort over the crossbar.
But Dublin did hit the target with just under a quarter of an hour to go, nodding home Lappin's left-wing cross to give City hope. Steven MacLean just failed to connect with Lunt's low free-kick as the match moved into the dying stages while Etuhu rifled high over the top, before the final whistle brought the curtain down on the 2006-07 season.
