Tommy Spurr has exclusively told Wednesday World of his satisfaction having grown into a first team regular through the campaign just gone.

Goalkeeper Lee Grant was the only Owls player to make more appearances than Spurr, who is quietly content with his personal progress over the past nine months.

He said: "I think I've improved as a player from last year, which is something you have to try and do. I managed to get into the team and stay there after missing out altogether in the first game, which was really disappointing."

In terms of pinpointing a particular highlight, Tommy - hardly surprisingly - opted for his stunning strike that salvaged a draw for Wednesday against Plymouth at Hillsborough in April.

Spurr's dipping 25-yard volley was later voted the club's Goal of the Season and came at a vital part of proceedings in both the Pilgrims contest and the term itself.

He added: "The main highlight for me was my Plymouth goal, it was a vital goal and the reaction of the fans was brilliant, so that was a dream come true for me.

"The fans have been brilliant all season. We showed against Norwich the kind of fan base we have here, hopefully we can have days like that more often."
