Wilcox welcomes Millers match
Sheffield Wednesday's assistant manager, Russ Wilcox, has welcomed the Owls first round Carling Cup draw, which will see Rotherham United come to Hillsborough during the first week of the season.
Ironically, the fixture is a repeat of last season's first round draw, the only difference being that last year's match was an away fixture for the Owls.
Wednesday came from a goal down in that match to win 3-1 and Wilcox is looking forward to the coming season's re-match in S6.
"It should be a good game against Rotherham because it certainly was a good game when we played them last season," Wilcox told swfc.co.uk
"It is a good chance for us to progress to the next round and with any cup draw you can only ask to be at home so it will be good to host another local derby at Hillsborough."
Wilcox also noted the various players who are likely to be involved playing against their former clubs including former Millers man, Deon Burton, for the Owls and Rotherham defender, Graham Coughlan, who was previously with Wednesday.
The Millers manager, Mark Robins, is a former Owls striker, as his one of his latest recruits, Mark Burchill.
Wilcox said: "There are a number of connections with players who have played for both clubs, Mark Burchill being the newest one perhaps. Of course, Rotherham's manager, Mark Robins also played for Sheffield Wednesday so there are a lot of interesting angles."
The match will take place during the week commencing August 11 and we will bring you full details once they have been confirmed.
Don't forget the full League fixture list for the 2008/09 season will be released on Monday morning (June 16) and you can get the key dates sent to your mobile first through the official SWFC website.
