With competition for places in midfield strong, McAllister knows he must impress in pre-season and the midfielder will be aiming to do exactly that against former loan club Bury on Saturday.
But primarily, McAllister is focusing on getting his fitness and match sharpness back ahead of the new Championship campaign.
He exclusively told Wednesday World: "We've all come back fit, we've been working hard and it's just a case of getting up to speed with things and getting that match sharpness back now.
"The main thing is to get the fitness back, put the effort in and be raring to go for the first game of the season. Obviously you always look at your own performance pre-season because you want to go into the Burnley game full of confidence."
Although preferring the central midfield birth, McAllister is willing to play in a wider position such as the one he has occupied so far in pre-season.
He added: "When I first broke into the first team I was playing on the right. I feel my best position is centre midfield but if I need to do a job on the right then I will."
